Cure AHC is pleased to announce that we have awarded a $30,000 grant to Duke University to study “catastrophic outcomes” in the AHC mice, both D801N and E815K. A statistically significant number of mice with these mutations die suddenly and unexpectedly. Understanding the root cause of these deaths (and how to prevent them) could potentially reveal critical clues in the downstream effects of ATP1A3 mutation in humans, which could help focus the search for candidate treatments.
We are grateful for Dr. Mohamad Mikati and his team of top notch researchers who have already accomplished several significant research findings in alternating hemiplegia of childhood. We believe that this project will help to fill in critical missing pieces in the understanding of AHC, and help accelerate the journey to the Cure!
